Almaguin Highlands Community Living is a non-profit association that provides services and support to people who have an intellectual disability. We have been servicing the District of East Parry Sound for over 36 years. Our region reaches from Callander to Emsdale and over to Magnetawan.

We envision a society where people who have an intellectual disability belong and feel respected. To obtain this goal, we work with communities to include people who have an intellectual disability so they feel respected and share in all aspects of community life. We also work with their families to provide support and services that are as unique to each individual as their disability is.

We are dedicated to providing support and individual attention to each person and their family to help them reach their full potential. The individual, their family, friends and significant others are integral planning partners to their Essential Lifestyle Plan. We are very pleased to be able to offer such a wide variety of services to the people we serve and their families.

STRATEGIC PLAN FINAL VERSION DECEMBER 2011:   This plan represents the first formal strategic plan for Almaguin Highlands Community Living. The organization recognized the need to formally establish a vision of the future at this time and establish a set of new directions for the future of the organization. “Almaguin Highlands Community Living is a non-profit organization which works with other organizations and the communities of East Parry Sound, to provide support and services which ensure individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, the right to live in a state of dignity and participate effectively in all elements of life in the community.”

In order to achieve the above mission, these principles will be utilized:

Normalization : 
This principle implies making available to all persons with developmental disabilities, opportunities in every day living which are as close to, and would promote, a normal way of life.

Integration : 
The ultimate goal is integration within society. Therefore, the use of resources and services that are available to everyone in the community is a prerequisite for normal living and integration of persons with developmental disabilities.

Appropriate Amount of Service : 
Programs should provide only the services and supervision which are necessary to facilitate normal living. They should provide the highest quality of service in the areas in which the persons with developmental disabilities need help; but at the time educate, train, permit and encourage individuals to be as independent as possible.

Flexibility : 
Individuals should never be forced to remain in a program that fails to meet his/her needs or respect his/her capabilities. Therefore, all programs shall be flexible and should meet the requirements of the individuals and be altered when appropriate.

Our mission statement will determine the direction of the Association as a whole, the Board of Directors, employees and volunteers.
